FREDERICK, MARYLAND (May, 2005) - The Pratique Institute in Frederick, MD, announces today that Palomar Medical Technologies, Inc., SkinMedica, and Lumenis, Ltd. have signed on as the latest commercial supporters for the Cosmetic Bootcamp™. The Cosmetic Bootcamp™, designed for dermatologists and dermatology residents interested in establishing or growing a cosmetic practice, is scheduled for Aug. 11-13 in Jackson Hole, WY, and is a continuing medical education program accredited by the American Academy of Dermatology. The meeting is restricted to physicians that are trained in a specialty relevant to cosmetic medicine.
Founded in 1991, Palomar, a gold-level supporter for the Bootcamp, produces the world’s most advanced pulsed light and laser systems for cosmetic applications such as permanent hair reduction, leg veins, acne, pigmented lesion removal, wrinkle reduction, and vascular treatments.
SkinMedica is a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on developing, acquiring, and commercializing products that treat dermatologic conditions and diseases and improve the appearance of skin.
Lumenis is the worldwide leader in sales of light-based and laser systems, and has pre-eminent position in its three primary markets—medical, aesthetic, and ophthalmic. In 1970, Lumenis pioneered the use of medical lasers.
These three join other commercial supporters for the Cosmetic Bootcamp™ including Dermik Laboratories, INAMED Aesthetics, Medicis Pharmaceutical Corporation, Allergan, Inc., Surgical Specialties Corporation, OrthoNeutrogena, and BioForm Medical, Inc.
“We have been pleasantly surprised by the response we have gotten from the cosmetic dermatology and plastic surgery communities as well as the leaders in cosmetic products and technologies” says Kenneth Beer, co-director of the Cosmetic Bootcamp™. “The meeting is more than 25 percent ahead of projections in terms of physicians registered and 30 percent ahead of revenue projections for industry sponsorship.”
Beer added, “We inadvertently selected a weekend that conflicts with other important meetings as well as being at an inopportune time for third-year dermatology residents, yet we are still ahead of where we thought we would be. The meeting will be scheduled so as not to conflict with these events next year.”
